Artist Statement

I am a multidisciplinary artist working with ceramics, collage, drawing, painting, photography, and printmaking. My work explores the act of noticing in daily life in order to bring a growing sense of presence, gratitude, and joy to the mundanities and absurdities of life. I use a wide variety of artistic practices because we all contain multitudes and it is a genuine delight to follow multiple avenues of exploration as I create awareness and mental reframes for my audience. A recent example of my work is NOTICINGS, which is an ongoing project utilizing photos, drawings, prints, and paintings to capture the imagery of everyday life and reflect them back to my audience as works of art thereby drawing attention to what was previously overlooked. NOTICINGS led me to my current inquiries, which include exploring light and shadow, how art can build pride of place and deeper community, and how our perception of the world changes when we make the effort to create with our own hands. My work draws people in for a closer look, and shows them how to take curious eyes back to their regular life where they begin to notice anew. Through noticing my audience grows more capable of connecting with their inhabited world, of growing and deepening their communities, of expressing gratitude, and of becoming agents of change.
